In an effort to properly account for all water consumed by customers in Elk Grove Village, the Village installs water meters in all homes, businesses, schools, and government buildings within the Village. While Elk Grove absorbed as much of Chicago’s rate increase for as long as possible, the Village was compelled in 2012 to pass along some of Chicago’s rate increase to residents as most other municipalities have done already. In November 2011, the City of Chicago launched an unprecedented increase in water rates. *Please note: Certain unincorporated properties receive sewer services from Bensenville. JAWA currently contracts with the City of Chicago for water. The Village purchases Lake Michigan water through the North Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency (JAWA).
