![]() ![]() In a pinch, I could always trade them away for extra purchasing power in the first caravan (except for the one masterwork pick, I don't want to upset my smith)īecause favorite materials are random, you might not get any starting dwarfs who like a metal that is useful for weapons/armor but it doesn't hurt to check. They also add to the fort's wealth making for a larger 1st migrant wave. While high quality picks don't do anything for digging speed, they make their owners happier and are much deadlier if I need to draft some miners into a military squad. So with a weaponsmith who started with only a 5 skill, I was able to get a bunch of high-quality weapons/tools for relatively little embark point cost. Just before I deconstructed my temporary weapon forge, I hit t and looked at all the wares she made. ![]() The axes are for wood cutting and to get my first melee squad training once I get enough migrants) (I do a miner swarm strategy to get my fort dug out quickly, hence the 7 picks. I made a total of 7 bronze picks and 3 bronze battle axes. I also embarked with 5 copper bars and 5 tin bars (10 points each) to be smelted into 10 bars of bronze, from which I'd make my picks and other starting weaponry. Knowing that dwarfs like working with their favorite material, I gave her 5 points in weaponsmith. I was scanning through my starting 7 dwarves when I noticed one of them had 'bronze' as a favorite material.
